Image No. 67-C3-1 Leonard Cohen, Judy Collins and Friends
1967 Newport Folk Festival
By 1967, Judy Collins was evolving beyond her folk roots and performing an eclectic repertoire that reflected her wide-ranging tastes. She did more than any other singer to bring Leonard Cohen's songs to a popular audience with her recordings of "Suzanne," "Bird on the Wire," "Story of Isaac," "Sisters of Mercy" and other Cohen compositions. At right is Mary Martin, who introduced Judy to Leonard in 1966.
